I have two larger than life announcements to share with you this fine March morning...
First: If you are in the area, I will be taking place in the St. Stephen (NB) Author's Fair at the St. Croix Public Library on April 22nd. I'll be selling books, doing a signing, handing our business cards, and possibly read an excerpt from "Howler Shack". Please visit this site for details!
Second: I am currently working on 'Scaring Charlotte County', some short stories, and a comic collection. HOWEVER, I am proud to say that 'The Art of Tanner Riche' painting collection book has been given the green light and is currently under way. We just have to take some good quality retakes of paintings on hand, do some book editing, and maybe even a how to or two. The hopes is to have it done by this summer. See you then!
It's hard to write. I've always known that, but it is becoming more prominent as I go on with this "writing challenge." I have an extensive imagination... so why is it so hard to create ideas. I tell you, it's ridiculous. There are two genres I have never written before... science fiction and romance (I mainly write about everyday things, I need change!). I'd love to write these and I really want to. But something is holding me back on each.
SciFi - I can't think of ideas. Any I have I cannot go into detail on how such a fantasy can
exist. But, perhaps there doesn't HAVE to be one.
Romance - I just can't bring myself to write such smut. It would be fun, but too sappy.
And so, if I come to such drawbacks or writers block, I try to find inspiration. That's not hard - it's everywhere. So I am here to tell you where to find it. Click 'read more'.
So this is happening.
Are you familiar with NaNoWriMo? If not click here, then continue with this post. Well, this is sort of like that, only you have multiple months. I am being tasked with writing 30, 000 to 50, 000 words between mid-February and late-June. It can be either a short story collection or a full length novel.
I chose the route of a short story collection, with the first longer short story originally going to be a novel but proving to be a difficult little bastard. The plan is to tie them all in with a final story called 'Improving.' I won't tell you too much (spoilers!) but I can let you know that I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the opener called 'Howler Shack.'
During the writing of this book I had a conference at which my English teacher said to me, "Your writing reminds me of Ernest Hemingway." A huge compliment. Upon reading Hemingway (and gaining his last name as a nickname) you could almost swear that I wrote it, and I take that with great (hmm... proudness? no...) fondness.
My current word count is (drum-roll): 8702. The goal for the end of next week is 10, 000 plus, making me 1/3 of the way there. Less stressful than NaNoWriMo, huh?
